Voice Rehabilitation
Voice rehabilitation is a specialized program aimed at helping individuals regain or improve their ability to speak following head and neck surgery, particularly procedures involving the larynx (voice box) or vocal cords. Voice changes or loss of voice can result from surgical removal of the larynx, damage to the vocal cords, or other treatments for head and neck cancers.
Our team of speech therapists and voice specialists collaborates to develop personalized voice rehabilitation plans tailored to each patient's specific needs and goals. Treatment may include exercises to strengthen vocal muscles, techniques to improve vocal resonance and projection, and strategies to manage breath support and vocal quality.
For individuals who have undergone total laryngectomy (removal of the larynx), we offer training in alternative methods of communication, such as esophageal speech, tracheoesophageal speech (TEP), or the use of electronic speech devices (electrolarynx). Our team provides comprehensive education and support to help patients adapt to their new voice and communication methods.
Throughout the rehabilitation process, our team provides ongoing assessment and adjustment of treatment plans to ensure progress and address any challenges or concerns that arise. We also offer counseling and support to help patients cope with the emotional and psychosocial impact of voice changes and adjust to their new communication abilities.
Our goal is to help patients regain confidence in their voice and communication abilities, improve their quality of life, and facilitate a smooth transition to life after head and neck surgery. We are committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care that addresses the unique needs and goals of each individual undergoing voice rehabilitation.
