Skull-based Malignancies
Skull-base malignancies are cancers that develop in the bones or tissues at the base of the skull. These tumors can be challenging to treat due to their location near vital nerves and brain structures.
Types of Skull-Base Malignancies:
• Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Cancer that can develop in various head and neck regions, including the skull base.
• Sinus Cancers: Malignant tumors arising in the paranasal sinuses.
• Pituitary Tumors: Pituitary tumors are abnormal growths in the pituitary gland, a pea-sized gland at the base of the brain that produces hormones controlling many body functions.
• Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma: Cancer of the upper part of the throat behind the nose.
•
Chordoma: A slow-growing malignant tumor arising from embryonic remnants at the skull base.
• Chondrosarcoma: Cancerous tumor originating from the cartilage at the skull base.
• Esthesioneuroblastoma (Olfactory Neuroblastoma): Develops in the olfactory nerve tissue responsible for smell.
